Day 1

Day one of our journey was a bloody long one. It went something like this:

• 2:30 - Alarm goes off.
• 3:00 - Taxi arrives.
• 4:30 - Arrive at Airport.
• 5:50 - Flight takes off.
• 9:30 (CEST) - Arrive in Palermo and meet up with Mum
• 10:30 - through customs, pick up bags, get to car hire place to find utter chaos and that we're 23rd in line.
• 12:15 - on the road.
• 14:45 - can't keep eyes open, Mum takes over driving.
• 16:15 - start driving again after Mum is thrown by roadworks and tollways but having had a good snooze in the back of the car.
• 17:15 - arrive at Villa about half way between Catania and Syracuse in Costa Saracena - Castelluccio. Beautiful, more about that another day.
• 18:30 - shopping for some basics.
• 19:30 - force local restaurant to open half an hour early so we can be fed and get to bed.
• 22:00 - quick dip in the pool.
• 22:30 - collapsing in bed.

Pretty epic first day but we're here and this is happening. Looking forward to a sleep in and a quiet day tomorrow. I'll bang on about Sicily another day.
