African Storms

Got into bed and collapsed last night, as expected. Still a restless night though - it would seem the brain hasn't quite caught up with being on holiday yet and it's been a pretty crazy few weeks.

My restlessness had me up early and I used the time to punch out a bunch of work on a freelance gig I have at the moment. I'll be spending a fair bit of our time in Sicily working but we've got to fund the trip somehow...

Early in the morning a storm moved over - coming accross from Africa as promised by our host. Perfect given I wanted to get a heap of work done really. Then Mum realised the kitchen was ankle deep in water.

It would seem the patio had flooded and was now filling the kitchen. Much fuss was made by the host who we called and little fuss was made by the kid he sent out to take a look. Long story short, the patio is now sandbagged in preparation for the storms will continue to batter us for the next day or two.

The weather eventually cleared and we headed out for a drive at about 4. We headed over to Augusta to do a shop at a larger supermarket then drove around the town a bit. It's an old port town and nice enough but the rain started to pour down again.

We had a quick drive through Brucoli which looks like a really lovely little fishing village with loads of restaurants that I'm sure we'll return to for a meal at some stage.

As we arrived home another storm was rolling in - complete with lightning this time - but we got our first glance and Mount Etna across the bay from us. It had been obscured by clouds until now, but the clouds had sank low enough that Etna peaked out over the top.
